Wedding Photos

Within these past four months, I've had the honor of doing make-up for two weddings. I know it isn't that many but, since it's my first time around for weddings, it was kind of a big deal for me. The first wedding I did make up for was my cousin Jeannine's. It was a small wedding party but everyone turned out beautiful. I didn't have that many photos in my possession as I was the maid of honor. Here are the one's that I have, which aren't many but you get the picture lol. I also did Abreana's hair for the wedding, as she was one of the flower girls.

Below are photo's from Melissa and Ray's wedding. I loved the color and style of the bride's maids dresses.

As far as the make up. Everyone was obviously a different complexion. I mostly used Make-Up Forever, MAC and Nars. For the eyeshadow, I used my Sedona Lace pallet using Pinks and Purples for both wedding parties and to make the eyeshadow last all day and night I used MAC Paint Pot in "Painterly".

My Work

So, I'm excited to present to all of my loyal blog readers my first shoot I did for my portfolio... I had to start someplace and hopefully this opens a door to a new beginning! I worked with my great friend and amazing photographer Stephen Midgett. We only had a 2.5 hour window so it was great to see how fast and well I could work with four models and continuous interruptions. It was a fun shoot and I think I did very well. So, feel free to check out the photos below and leave your feed back. If you would like to book me for a shoot go ahead and email me at iyuananichole1@gmail.com

My Thoughts...

This morning my cousin bought this song to my attention. Well, I've heard the song a billion times but never really paid attention to the lyrics. The very first line of the song just made me burst into tears. OUT OF NOWHERE.

Over the past few years I think I've become more mature and my outlook on life is completely different. With that, I've become very emotional about the smallest things. Even if things are just beautiful, my eyes start to water. I've learned to walk away from certain situations and like I say a million times, I have no problem with telling someone to go directly to hell. I have no time for drama and bullshit. It's really beyond me. I can get really ugly if need be but I TRY to avoid that.

Sometimes, life gets so hard that I just want to hide under a rock or vanish. I know everyone comes to a point where they want to know "I'm doing all of this, for what?" Right?

Anyhow, this song just made me think about a ton of things. Especially these past few days with two people passing away. I've never thought about Life this hard, IN MY LIFE! People don't realize how precious it really is because they are too busy doing other things. It's okay to stop and relax and spend at least a day with the ones you love. You can't get memories back, you can only cherish them once you're in the moment or once it has passed. Just take the time out to listen to the song I posted.

Life

Sometimes, You have to encourage yourself!

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is bliss, taste it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.

DEATH TO FACEBOOK

Over the past few years, I have indulged myself into "Face Book". I have had my fair share with it and other social networking sites that have slowly withered away (Myspace, for example). At one point in time when I was doing the whole "glamour model" thing. It was very beneficial, seeing as everyone had a Myspace down to your favorite actress, singer/songwriter, rapper/singer. That's where they did most of their castings for magazines and such. Face book was around but only for "students" which was fine because they slowly opened their door for ANYBODY to have a page. So now ANYBODY can have a Face Book page.

To set the record straight, I used my face book to the MAX. There started to become waaay too many people on my friends list that I did not know, minding the little bit of business I put up. Yes, I did accept them into my world, which was my fault. So I left that page for my "fan" page for my "glamour modeling" which that was the only reason people would request me in the first place. I closed the page down for a few months and started a page for myself. A more private page for my family and friends that I don't see or talk to everyday. No one wants to sit on the phone for hours, people are busy and have LIVES. So what better way to connect with photos and updates for them? You can just connect with them all at the same time! Perfect. At first. Now it's not so perfect and I feel like what you put out into this fake world you start to get it back. Family is the hardest to please and the most critical because either they want you to be one way or no way. You cannot express yourself with out their harsh criticism. Correct? Then there are the ones that are upset that you don't want to add them on your page.. To me, it's really not that big of a deal. IT'S FACE BOOK. People get lost in these virtual worlds and forget about real life. If you see me or talk to me every SINGLE day I don't see a reason for us to be friends on Face Book. You already know what's going on with me, what I'm doing, how I feel, and where I'm going... True? Yes, very true.

In conclusion, I would like to welcome everyone to my blog, you may also find me on Twitter if you didn't know about it already. You can even email me at iyuananichole1@gmail.com. If you don't have my phone number then we aren't that close to begin with. Yes, I am going back to the old times. I'm going to pretend as if Face Book never existed. It's not making or breaking me, and you shouldn't depend on it as your guide to the world either.

Peace & Blessings,
Yana

Simple Contouring

This is my version of simple contouring. It's a bit dark but you can still see the end results.
Hopefully this will help those of you who are just starting out with make-up!

NARS - Barcelona

Recently I decided to try a different foundation. I love M.A.C, don't get me wrong but I want to switch it up a bit. Considering I have almost EVERYTHING in M.A.C, I decided to go with NARS.

It was really hard for me to find my color. When I first went into Sephora, the girl gave me "Tahoe".. Apparently that is way to dark for me. So I went back and got "Syracuse" and "Barcelona". I know, you're probably like 'what is wrong with you, why didn't you try it out before purchasing girl!?'. Answer is, I tried them out but their lighting is way different. So once I got home, I tried them both out in natural light. Needless to say, they both work for me. Like all other liquid foundation, it's a lot different looking in the bottle transferred to your skin. Syracuse I would probably use in the summer and Barcelona I definitely can use now.

I absolutely LOVE the NARS foundation and their whole line, actually. It's very light and comes off easy. I think I like it a lot better than the M.A.C Prolong Wear. Since I ran out of the M.A.C Brush cleaner, the Prolong Wear makes my foundation brush extremely stiff and you are supposed to clean your brush once a week. I found that I was cleaning that brush and my concealer brush ever time I used the Prolong Wear. Anyhow, below are the results of "Barcelona" by NARS. I also teamed it up with my Sedona Lace Palette!!

NARS Foundation- Barcelona
M.A.C Studio Finish - NC35

Black Mens 40/40 Issue

For the past bazillion months, I've been trying to get in touch with the editor of black mens magazine. I've sent my submissions and everything. Just like all the other females.

One bright sunny day, I was looking at my timeline via twitter and saw a bunch of females tweeting telling everyone to go vote for them on www.blackmendigital.com.... At first I was saying to myself, no I don't wanna. As I have been kind of stuck between trying to figure out if I still want to be a glamour model or just do free lance Make-Up and go to school to be a Pathologist. Not saying I cannot do them all but I know ME. Let's just leave that alone..lol.

So I finally made up my mind and made a profile. The catch is this, there are thousands of models on there trying to get picked to be in the 40/40 issue. If they are not part of the 40/40 issue, then their profile stays on file for up coming opportunities. Which is fair. All of these women are beautiful and unique in their own way, seeing as each woman has their own following/fan base as each man likes something different in women. Men like what they like, point blank period. The model's job is to promote herself as heavy as possible. Which is why I'm writing the blog.

If you want to see me in the 40/40 issue of BlackMen's Magazine, all you have to do is CLICK HERE and click the FIFTH STAR

No Name

I was tempted to call this a "Barbie look". only because I had something similar like this done at the M.A.C counter for a photo shoot when they had the whole "Barbie" anniversary thing going on. Clearly, the colors are a bit darker than what they used. I don't have a name for this though. So we shall call it "No Name".

I started off by using a jumbo white liner on my whole top lid up to the eye brown and then below my bottom lid, just to make the colors pop a little more. I then proceeded to break out my Sedona Lace 120 eye shadow pallet!

*You can click the photo below to enlarge it and follow the numbers to see what order I went in*

1. I applied this to the inner corner and outer corner halfway to the middle and around the bottom. (I have two no.1's because I mixed them)
2. Right in the middle of my top and bottom lid.
3. Lower inner lid and a hint on the top lid
4. This soft pink was applied as the highlight color up to the bottom of my brow.
5. Used my 224SE M.A.C Blending Brush and applied this dark green over the yellow.

....and there you have it! I applied my favorite false lashes, black liner on my water line and liquid liner along my top lash line.. Now you can give it a try!
